Fraudsters have been very busy lately contacting potential victims and impersonating a Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) employee. Think about how this criminal could benefit from talking to you. They could either get you to send them money by credit card or Interac. They could also send you to a website where you would enter personal information that they use for identity theft.
An easy way to determine that the person you are talking to is a fake is when they ask you for a credit card number or to make an Interac transfer. These are not ways that CRA collects payment. Imagine how many loyalty points we would all have if we could pay CRA with a credit card!
