Donation Receipts

You can only claim donation receipts on your income tax return that come from actual charities. No kidding!

You know that you are dealing with a real charity because there will be a registration number showing on the receipt. The receipt will have many details, name and full address of the charity, date, amount and a signature. If you are unsure of any charity, you can check the CRA website to make sure that they are listed. It’s best to do this before you give them any money, of course. Take a good look at your donation receipts and make sure that they qualify before you put them on your personal tax return.
