Estate Planning — Talk to Your Executor. Canada 150 Recommendation #72

Saturday’s= Retirement

Assuming you have a will, you have appointed an executor.

This executor should know your wishes so that they will be able to make the best decisions when implementing your will. In order to fully understand your wishes, you need to have frank discussions with executor.

People don’t generally enjoy talking about death so this task gets put off. In addition, executors do not always understand all of the tasks that they will have to perform when your death occurs.

Two things that should happen — your executor should talk to a lawyer and an accountant so that they understand their obligations and you should go over the will with them and make sure they understand what you want.

If there is an afterlife you do not want to spend it wishing that you had explained something better.
