The term mission drift is pretty much what it sounds like.
This term applies to situations where the stated mission of the organization has been overlooked and the group is doing something different from the original mission.
The policy question then is – how often do you review your mission to see if it is still appropriate for the activities of your group?
Another potential policy question is– how did the group get away from its mission? Were activities approved that are not in keeping with the original mission?
So the question is then, do we change the activities or do we change the mission? Maybe some time should be spent considering this question – annually would be good.
