Look For HTTPS. Canada 150 Recommendation #106

Friday’s= Cyber Security

Online shopping is popular and convenient. There are risks however.

One way to improve your chances of avoiding fraud is to make sure that you are dealing with a secure website. The protocol http:// is not secure. You want to see https://

That additional “s” in the address is an indication that the website is a secure site. You are also looking for the padlock icon to indicate the site is secure.

Some fraudsters will get a domain name that is close to the name of a popular site and attempt to convince you to enter your credit card information. An example would be Amason which is not the retail giant Amazon, but you might be fooled if you are looking quickly.
