One Way to Grade Your Board’s Effectiveness

I am sure that your group has a board assessment tool.

However here is a quick test that you might find so easy todo that you do it more often.

This tool is primarily directed at nonprofits.

Here are four things that you can measure. If you can answer each of them positively your group gets an A, if you can answer 3 of them positively you get a B, do you see a trend?

1. Did your board have a quorum at each meeting of the year? (You can ignore weather related absences.)
2. Do you have a strategic plan? (Bonus question – do you have a plan for next year?)
3. Do you have an agenda for each meeting?
4. Is the agenda for the meeting tied into the strategic plan?

Keep track of your score and see if you can keep that A each year.
