If you have been following my weekly tips, you know that I think governance is everywhere. Holiday governance is one of my specialities. So, let’s look at Valentine’s Day.
First of all, why does this holiday exist? I assume it is a Hallmark Holiday – one of the holidays that were created to benefit the greeting card business. However, you need to consider if there are any stakeholders in your life who are expecting some recognition on Valentine’s Day. Your partner in life is an obvious choice, how about your parents or children. What is the family culture around Valentine’s Day? Once you have determined the expectations you need to develop a strategy to satisfy the stakeholders. Do you need chocolate for your partner? How about the kids? Flowers? Gift Cards?
Harmony in life is achieved when your important stakeholders are happy with you – don’t miss an opportunity to live up to their expectations.
